Conservapedia:Atheism and Google

From RationalWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Conservative is Conservapedia's self-proclaimed defender of the truth against cp:Atheism, cp:Evolution and cp:Homosexuality. His crusade involves frequently spamming the main pages of Andy's blog with news of how high his articles rank in Google, when seen on his computer. These "results" are often shouted aross to us, via the Red Telephone.

In addition, he frequently undertakes top secret "missions" (the latest being Operation Flying Fortress) which seems to involve link-spamming exercises with unknown bloggers - in this case, the anti-atheism (and anti-Mormon) wingnut Mariano.

Given Ken's Conservative's fixation with the internet, it was worth investigating what the internet is saying about him and his Atheism article and who exactly is linking to his articles. Running this search on Google and reviewing the first 100 entries provided some interesting insights.

The results have been divided into pro, anti or neutral.

Top of the list was cp:Atheism obviously, followed by cp:Conservapedia:Atheism vs. Deism. Good news is that RW hold 3rd spot with our refutation, located at Conservapedia:Atheism.

Contents

[edit] Anti

  • Good old Internet Infidels have a chuckle
  • Atheistmedia, far from being silenced by Ken...
  • Baraminology even has a video pwning cp:Atheism
  • Apologetics.net pull the "causes of atheism" apart
  • Google group "Atheism vs. Christianity" stare wide-eyed at the drivel they're reading
  • Absolutewrite start off on a good note for Ken's article, but reality soon takes hold again.
  • Evil Bender has plenty to say about it, especially the "study of 12 atheists".
  • Remember the "public awareness campaign"? Stumbleupon evoked one response...
  • Both Bad Idea and Jinxworld (no relation to Jinx hi Jinx!) have fun with the "reasonable" explanation for atheism.
  • Deeply blasphemous digests CP's "article of the year"
  • Anxious Mo-Fo realises CP is linking to him and comes out, guns blazing.
  • Yahoo Answers ponders why CPs atheism article is 5 times longer than their "God" article.
  • JP Holding who once mentioned cp:Atheism (see under 'Neutral) no longer carries any mention of it.
  • My mall makes a telling comment:"...to undermine its own presumption of a commitment to integrity, not unlike the methodology promoted by holocaust revisionists and tobacco lobbyists-- an appearance of the search for truth rather than the substance of the search for truth."
  • Off resonance does a great job highlighting the flaws in Ken's baby
  • Gasp! Even them ebil Demoncrats get in on the act. Maybe it's payback for the Obama hatchet job?
  • Google group Atheism
  • Reddit highlights the "reality has a liberal bias" comment, and probably spikes CP's traffic.
  • Ken might think Richard Dawkins is the Devil Incarnate, but posters to his blog think you're crap.
  • Zuckervati earns kudus for mentioning us in their trashing of Ken's work.
  • Happy Heathens echo what we've been saying: "Seriously, please tell me it's a spoof!"
  • Issuepedia links to it, calling it "a rather distorted view"
  • Objectivism Online also preach to the choir: "I couldn't even make it through the Atheism article."
  • Total Format call it "the Joke of Year"
  • Another brilliant Reddit thread, showing just how well the Stalin and Hitler pics went down.
  • Conservative, posing as "Mark Davidson" spams Austin Cline once again.
  • Evil Bender has another entry, where Conservative quote mines the "bad" effects of atheism.
  • Invisible Pink Unicorn confuses CP's Atheism article with an entry in The Onion.
  • Cubic's Rube, in their section on "putting the bias back into unbiased reporting", mentions “Causes of Atheism” (This last begins with “Moral depravity”...and just goes downhill from there) and Stalin.
  • The Secular Outpost describes it as "a fun way to waste half an hour". Being overly generous, methinks.
  • Religion Virus says it succinctly: "I took a look at the Conservapedia "encyclopedia" entry on Atheism, and was genuinely disappointed by what a joke it is. It's hysterical, but sort of sad..."
  • James Randi gets in on the act.
  • FRDB lists people who like the article... the realises they're all Ken.
  • Think Atheist gets angry, but a user comment sums it up: "that much stupidity concentrated into one place gives me migraines. "
  • Friendly Atheist has a look at the "Common causes", but is worried, because no cure is listed.

[edit] Pro

  • Evolution Fairy Tale have a thread on it, posted by Ken posing as "Peter Moore"[1]. Disqualified for self-promotion. Reading it, it seems as if even Christians aren't interested in Ken's work, as the discussion immediately veers onto other topics.
  • Christian forums made mention of it in a post also added by "Peter Moore". Silence ensued, with not a single reply from other Christians to the post. Disqualified for self-promotion.
  • The Blasphemy Challenge, run by fellow anti-atheism kook Frank Walton, posted a bunch of links to atheism-related articles. Not a single comment thanking him for it, however. Like Ken, it seems as if Frank leads a sad, lonely life in his mother's basement. For some reason, he also runs Atheism Sucksand posted the same links. Result = silence. As of mid-April 2009, still silence, and Blasphemy Challenge has closed shop. Whoops! So has Atheism sucks. Operation Freaking Platypus is really going well.
  • Somebody called Bill O'Rly spams fstdt and gets pwned. The writing style looks verryyy familiar... (While your'e there say hello to David B)

[edit] Neutral

  • Aviva Directory has an entry for it. Ken again?
  • Sourcewatch entry for Conservapedia has a link to cp:Atheism. It is likely that "Dlmurray" is Ken socking up yet again. Other than plugging the atheism article (written by Ken), evolution article (written by Ken) and homosexuality articles (all written by Ken), those familiar with his editing style will notice certain similarities (Like taking five attempts to get a simple addition right).
  • Ignoring the debate that followed, the Internet Infidels mention that JP Holding has recommended cp:Atheism. However, it would appear as if the poster, one "jonathondickenson" is, in fact, yet another known Ken sock, thus disqualifying itself. (Ken also joins the debate again later with another of his "personalities" - David B.)

[edit] Worthy of Mention

[edit] Conclusion

As with the Evolution article, it's clear that the only people linking to Atheism are bloggers, who rather than being stunned into silence (or even conversion) are either pulling apart the arguments or simply laughing themselves silly at the Web's Biggest Joke. Within the first 100 matches (most of which weren't even relevant to cp:Atheism by the end) there is not a single conservative voice speaking up in favour of the article.

Perhaps most telling are the three pro entries. Even when he spams Christian forums, he receives no response. More importantly, why does he keep posting under socks? He is obviously aware that Ken DeMeyer and "Conservative" are already branded as internet kooks and typically, would rather sneak around adding comments, than stand up for himself. If we allow for the fact that ken was behind the Sourcewatch and Aviva entries, that leaves one valid entry in the "pro" and "neutral" sections - and that by a fellow kook.

Adding in that the two Christian weblink sites I found both carry no mention at all of Conservapedia, and one wonders where all these top secret operations are taking place, besides inside Conservative's head.

Result = fail. Epic fail. As has been said before - page rank counts for nothing. What matters is the sound of the majority laughing at you.
